I am adjusting to life after cancer treatment
Receiving a diagnosis of cancer can often begin a rollercoaster of events involving doctors’ appointments, hospital treatments and trying to continue with life at the same time.
Depending on the treatment you have needed, this can often involve months of your life.
But what happens when treatment comes to an end?
What next?
Many people describe a range of emotions as they come to the end of their treatment. There may be feelings of joy that you have got through the sometimes difficult treatment, or a sense of loss from the routine you had become used to. You may still be experiencing some side effects from the treatment you have received.
It may also be hard dealing with loved ones and others’ expectations that that part of your experience is over, of feeling like you must return to ‘normal’, whatever that might mean for you now.
No matter where you find yourself on this path, one thing is clear: it takes time to adjust to life after treatment and we can continue to help navigate what support is right for you, and help you take control of how you handle this next stage too.
"Just knowing they were there was a deep comfort and it helped to sustain me"

It can be difficult to know where to begin sometimes, and that is why if you are new to Penny Brohn UK, we invite you to attend our online welcome session. Here you will discover more about the charity and be introduced to our personalised cancer care approach.
Personal planning
Our experienced Wellbeing team will offer personalised support and advice about which of our services can best support your physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing, before, during and after cancer treatment. We will help signpost and direct you to other organisations that can also support these needs.
Wellbeing days and retreats
You may feel that the time is right to give yourself the opportunity to take a break and join us at our beautiful centre in Bristol. You can join others who have gone through their own experience of cancer and attend either one of our wellbeing days, or stay with us on a wellbeing retreat.
Recommended partners
Please check out our recommended partners page, where you will find other charities and organisations that you may wish to explore. They have specific information on varying topics, such as parenting with cancer, or where to find local support where you are.
Personal consultations
Sometimes a group is not the best place to get the personalised support you need, so we offer one-to-one consultations with our experienced integrative doctors, counsellors, nutritional therapists, exercise specialists and complementary therapists.
These appointments are a chance to share your personal concerns and receive tailored support and advice. Most of our consultations are offered by phone with a few in-person consultations each week at our centre near Bristol.
If you would like to speak to one of our team to understand what support is best for you right now, our Client Support Team is here for you Monday to Fridays 10am – 4pm with support and guidance.
