Step up and 'Walk Well' in May 2024 to make every step count for cancer wellness!

Between 1st - 31st May, make every step count by raising vital funds for Penny Brohn UK, and provide wellbeing support for any adult with cancer across the UK.

Sign up to complete 10,000 steps a day, or a distance of your choice, this May. Whether you walk, jog or ‘wheel’ you’ll be helping to transform the lives of those living with cancer.

Not only will you be fundraising, but we also hope your daily walk will offer you time for self-care. Throughout the month we’ll be sharing prompts for small, daily activities that enhance your overall wellness; from moments of mindfulness and relaxation, nutritious recipes, and fun challenges.

Why Walk Well?

Cancer is an emotional rollercoaster, filled with a rush of thoughts and feelings. But amidst the turbulence, there’s hope – hope that growths when individuals with cancer feel stronger, both physically and emotionally.  

At Penny Brohn we support any adult with any type of cancer, anywhere in the UK. Whether they are newly diagnosed, going through cancer treatment, adjusting to life after treatment or living with a terminal diagnosis, Penny Brohn UK gives people the tools and support they need to live better/enhance their wellbeing and feel more in control of their lives. 

Your support can truly make a difference to the wellbeing of those facing cancer.  

FAQs

If you miss a day or can’t complete the daily step count don’t worry! The challenge is to complete 100 miles over the month, so just add extra effort and make up your steps across the next week.

We welcome anyone to take part in WalkWell! 10,000 steps is equivalent to about 5 miles. Wheelchair users, you can challenge yourself by completing the distance everyday, however, the challenge is flexible so if 10,000 steps is too much then anyone taking part can set a challenge suitable for themselves.

Yep, if you would like to get a head start, go for it! This challenge is all about YOU. Complete it whenever you like to best suit your lifestyle.

The goal of 10,000 steps is the recommended daily step target for healthy adults to achieve health benefits. However, we know how hard it can be some days. Which is why we are encouraging you to make walking a focus through the month and support Penny Brohn UK along the way!

If you can’t reach 10,000 steps every day in May, don’t worry. The main thing is that you’ve challenged yourself and raised money to support Penny Brohn UK. If you want to finish the challenge, you can give yourself more time to do it.

Yes absolutely, when registering for the WalkWell challenge you will be provided the option to create a team or join an already established team. Alternatively you are welcome to complete this challenge solo too!

10,000 steps a day is the equivalent of 8km, or 40-60 minutes of walking, depending on your stride length and speed.

Once you’ve signed up to participate through our Enthuse page there are two way for you to add your activity during the WalkWell event:

link your fundraising page with a Strava account or manually add your activity to your fundraising page.

We’ve also created a paper tracker for you to tick off your steps as you go.

No, this event is FREE for anyone to take part! We hope you’ll use the opportunity to help raise money for Penny Brohn UK. All the money you raise will help us reach more people living with cancer who need our support.
