FebRUNary Challenge 2025
This February, we’re lacing up our shoes to run 28 miles in support of those living with cancer. It’s simple: run 1 mile a day throughout the month of February, and together, you can raise awareness for Penny Brohn UK.
When: Saturday 1st – Friday 28th February 2025
Where: Wherever you choose!
Sign up to FebRUNary and then get ready to kick-start your running on Saturday 1st February. Here’s some of our top tips for how to take part:
- Run 1 mile a day, or backlog your miles to take on some longer runs at the weekends
- You don’t have to limit yourself to 28 miles – double, triple or even quadruple that amount if you’re a seasoned runner!
- Don’t pressure yourself to run the whole thing. If you need to walk, that’s ok too!
- Take on the challenge as a group, that way you can hold each other accountable, keep each other motivated and celebrate your success together
- Use a tracking device (smartphone or watch) to keep track of how many miles you’ve run.
- Most importantly – just make sure you have fun!
Share your progress and photos with us by posting regular updates at the beginning of the challenge, each week, just before the end and afterwards.
By participating in FebRUNary, not only are you challenging yourself to stay active but you can also raise vital awareness and funds that will help us to continue providing life-changing support to even more people living with cancer in 2025 and beyond.
People like Dalia.
Dalia was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2022 at just 33.
“When going through treatment, you don’t have a huge amount of time to ask questions or make decisions, and you feel pushed through a process. Going to the hospital as a patient can be very disempowering. You can feel pressured to make fast choices, and if you aren’t mindful of slowing the process down for yourself, then you can come out the other side having had every decision made for you, with no real say.
I wanted everything to be my decision and an active choice. I wanted to feel in control in a situation that can overwhelm.
Through Penny Brohn UK, I signed up to one-to-one support with an integrative doctor, nutritionist, hypnotherapist and exercise therapist. These sessions reinforced that I had a voice and that there were options that would help relieve symptoms and support my whole body.”
Dalia’s brother Youssef was incredibly inspired by his sister’s strength and tenacity during her cancer treatment, and how Penny Brohn UK matched with her values. This led to him undertaking the Wokingham Half Marathon in support of Penny Brohn UK back in February 2023, as a way to give back to everyone who supported his sister when she needed them most.
“During Dalia’s treatment, I joined her at a Wellbeing Day held at the Penny Brohn UK National Centre. It was amazing for me to see the support that they were giving her, and others like her. I could see they were critical to helping get her through cancer treatment and beyond.
It was around the time of Dalia’s treatment that I took up running. It was nice to separate myself from work, cancer, and the pressures of life. Before Dalia’s cancer diagnosis, I had been on a massive weight loss journey, and I could barely run up the stairs. I started with a Couch to 5k challenge and took to running quite well, so started running further and for longer.
Running was amazing for me. I could go out, run and be in my own thoughts. It was useful for my mental health and allowed me to be in a better headspace, so I could provide the best support to Dalia that I possibly could. Running allowed me to be more physically able and mentally there for her.”
