Including the voice of people with cancer

Everything we do is designed to support people to live as well as they can with and beyond cancer. We strive to continually improve our services and reach more people who need us but we can’t do it alone: we need your help. 

If we can better understand the needs of people with cancer, or who have experienced cancer at some time in their life, we can develop, design and improve our approach, services and communication to ensure we can support as many people as possible in ways that are meaningful for them.

Working together with those affected by cancer

Penny Brohn UK wants to work together with those who have a lived experience of cancer and enable them to have a voice in how we shape what we do and influence change.   

Our newly established Client Voice Group is a way for Penny Brohn UK to bring together potential and existing clients to have their say and share their experience.  The group is led by a volunteer and our aim is for the group to include people from many different backgrounds, type of cancer and knowledge of Penny Brohn UK (or not!) so that we hear a range of views and experience.   

Things you could get involved in as a member

There are many different opportunities and projects which you could get involved in as a member of the Penny Brohn UK Client Voice group. These could include: 

  1. Feeding into service development or redesign projects
  2. Providing case studies / stories for marketing
  3. User testing surveys and other measures for evaluation
  4. User testing marketing materials
  5. Getting involved with fundraising campaigns
  6. Sharing personal experiences to help improve our understanding of barriers or facilitators to accessing support

As a member of the group, you will be supported by our Volunteer Client Voice Lead. You will have opportunities to meet up with other members, be involved with interesting projects, and be part of a process to influence change for yourself and others.

Maddi joined Penny Brohn UK in 2023 in a new volunteer role as Client Voice Lead. This role focuses on expanding the opportunities for clients to share their thoughts and experiences about Penny Brohn UK and developing new ways of working more closely together to learn and share what is working well (or not so well!). Maddi is passionate about supporting clients to shape and develop current and future services and enable others to find out how an integrative approach, in addition to NHS treatment, can support and nourish them during a cancer diagnosis and beyond.
