Westspring IT raise over £3,000 for Penny Brohn UK as Charity of the Year 2023
In 2023, Bristol-based IT support service, WestSpring IT chose Penny Brohn UK as their Charity of the Year. Over the 12 months, they got up to all sorts, from 5-a-side football tournaments and golf days, to volunteering at our shop The Hub and even putting a team in the Great Bristol Run.
We sat down with Office Manager, Tasha Bernas, to find out more about their experience with Penny Brohn UK, and how they supported the charity throughout the year.
What was your motivation for supporting Penny Brohn UK?
We all agreed that we wanted to support a charity local to us that could really benefit from not just our donations, but volunteering our time as well as helping to raise vital awareness for them. The cause is close to a lot of our teams’ hearts with one of our Director’s having battled with Cancer himself and so it was a no brainer when picking our Charity of the Year for 2023.
Can you tell us a little bit about your fundraising activities to date?
We really did try to do a bit of everything! From client fundraising events such as our annual golf day and 5-a-side football tournament to completing the 10k Great Bristol Run and hosting a Christmas raffle. We turned our hands to some more manual jobs, volunteering in the Penny Brohn UK shop (The Hub) on Park Street, helping to paint, tidy and put up shelves.
Throughout the year we also made sure to put our professional skills to good use, spreading the word about the services Penny Brohn UK provide to those living with cancer across our social channels.
What’s the most rewarding thing about supporting a charity in this way?
Being able to visit the National Centre in Pill and meet the Penny Brohn UK team through volunteering was a great way to actually see the work that’s being done and how our time and money has an impact, sometimes immediately being able to see the results of our efforts.
What would you say to other companies who were thinking about supporting Penny Brohn UK?
It’s an incredible charity with a great team of people running it. Penny Brohn UK focuses not just on the physical affects of cancer, but also on the mental and emotional wellbeing of people who are affected by cancer which is a vital service and often an overlooked part of treatment. We have loved every second of supporting this charity.
We can’t thank everyone at WestSpring IT enough for their incredible dedication, time and effort donated to Penny Brohn UK over the last 12 months, and we’re pleased to report that they raised over £3,181.25 through their various activities.
