Give the gift of vital cancer support today

Every 90 seconds.

That’s how often someone in the UK hears the words no one wants to hear: You have cancer.

More than 3.5 million people are living with or beyond cancer today, and around 500,000 new cases are projected each year to 2040. With one in two of us affected in our lifetime, the scale of the challenge is undeniable.

NHS treatment saves lives. But most people still have little or no access to the wider support they urgently need to cope with the physical, emotional, spiritual and practical impact of cancer and its treatment.

In July, the Government announced their 10-Year Health Plan to combat the unprecedented challenges facing the NHS: prolonged wait times, difficulty getting GP appointments, and poorer outcomes for major illnesses like cancer. The plan focusses on three major shifts:

From hospital to community

From analogue to digital

From sickness to prevention

Penny Brohn UK’s services already align with and deliver on these priorities, but we know we can do more. Our ambitions over the next 5 years and beyond include:

  • Restoring our in-person support to pre-pandemic levels.
  • Expanding our online services with a best-in-class digital provision.
  • Reaching many more people, with a stronger focus on prehabilitation to improve outcomes and quality of life.

Real people, real resilience

Robert, adjusting to life beyond prostate cancer, attended a Retreat at the Penny Brohn UK Centre in 2024.

I got (from the retreat) a connection with other people and a real sense of camaraderie. I felt more grounded with where I am in my life, health-wise. I gained a better perspective of my situation, and I left feeling reassured about my life.”

Nicola utilised Penny Brohn UK’s online services coming out of lockdown after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

“It brought such a level of comfort to know that I wasn’t alone and helped to put me in control of my situation.”

In September we launched our Preparing for Treatment programme.

Thanks to the support I received from Penny Brohn UK, I went into treatment feeling stronger than I would have done without. I felt more in control when everything else felt out of my hands.

These are just three of the thousands of people whose lives have been enriched with our help.

We have become a stronger, more resilient organisation over the past few years thanks to our supporters. At the same time, recent changes in the law add over £7,000 every month to our running costs. That equates to almost £100,000 more per year to provide the same level of support.

Penny Brohn UK receives no Government funding. Everything we do is powered by people like you.

Your gift keeps our services free when demand is at its highest. Please help us close that gap so no one waits for support.

£25 could cover the cost for someone to attend 6 online Strength and Stamina sessions

58% of our service users access Penny Brohn UK for support with their physical resilience. You can give them the opportunity to combat fatigue, increase their mobility, and enhance their overall fitness.

£50 could cover the cost for someone to attend one of our online Treatment Support Groups

The most common reason for individuals attending our TSP group is to learn practical support and seek advice from our Integrative Doctors.

£90 could cover the cost for someone to access a one-to-one appointment with our Counselling team

With Macmillan having recently cut their Counselling service, and NHS wait times for counselling at its highest, a Penny Brohn UK counsellor may be someone with cancer’s only hope.

£200 could cover the cost for someone to take part in our Preparing for Treatment programme

68% of people who use our service have expressed that they would have used a “prehab” programme if it were available at the time. You can make sure that people can access what they need in future.

Penny Brohn UK exists to fill the gap between what the NHS can provide and what people living with cancer truly need. Together, we can ensure that no one has to walk this journey without support, strength, and resilience.

As we come towards the end of this year, please give generously. Help us build resilience and hope for everyone affected by cancer.
